Privacy notice
Last updated 9 October 2026
This site lets you read Le Greffier by Francis Jeremiah Sharon for free. This notice explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).
Who is responsible
The data controller is Francis Jeremiah Sharon, Nigeria. Contact: francisj2nd@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name, profile picture and Google account ID. We never get access to your Gmail, contacts or files.
- Reading activity: which chapters you open, the paragraph you reached, how long you spend actively reading each chapter, and when.
- How you found us: the ad campaign tags (UTM parameters) and Meta click ID in the link you arrived from.
- Technical data: device type, browser and an anonymous ID stored in a cookie.
- Anything you send us: your rating and comment at the end of the book, and your email preferences.
- If you enter the review contest: the name or handle you give, the link to your public review, and whether it met the rules. We check it against how much of the book you read here. Winners' delivery details are collected by direct message, only to send the prize.
Why we use it, and on what basis
- To provide the service you sign up for: keep you signed in and save your place across devices (performance of a contract).
- To understand which chapters keep readers and which lose them, so the author can improve the book (legitimate interest).
- To measure our Facebook and Instagram ads, using Meta cookies and Meta's Conversions API, only if you accept cookies (consent).
- To send you news about the book or new books, only if you tick the box on your account page (consent).
- To run the review contest you enter, and to show your review with credit on the Readers' Wall, as the rules say (consent, given when you enter).
Who we share it with
- Hosting and database providers that run the site for us (Vercel and our database provider).
- Our email provider, to send sign-in links.
- Google, only to sign you in if you choose "Continue with Google".
- Meta Platforms, if you accept cookies: we send which ad you came from and when you sign up or finish Chapter I or the book. Your email is sent only in hashed (scrambled) form.
Some of these providers process data outside Nigeria. We use providers that offer adequate protection, as the NDPA requires. We never sell your data.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and reading history for as long as your account is active and for 24 months after you last read, then delete it. Cookie consent records are kept as proof of your choice.
Your rights
You can download your data or delete your account at any time from your account page. You can also ask us to correct your data, object to processing, or withdraw consent, by emailing francisj2nd@gmail.com. You may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
